Wonderful Iceland!

If you've never been to Iceland before make sure you add it to your bucket list of must see destinations. It's fantastic!

Our summer holiday this year was an amazing 11 night cruise with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines around the stunning island of Iceland.

Our ship, the 'Balmoral' offered us all that we needed, a smaller ship, homely and great service all round from the staff and good quality food on board. A lot of people discount Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines when they are thinking of taking a cruise, yes, it doesn't have rock climbing walls, ice-rink or dodgems on board or 5000 guests and a vast range of restaurants on board! But is does offer a perfect 4* base to get up close to the outstanding scenery that Iceland has to offer.

We had a superior outside cabin with a picture window, we had plenty of storage room, and a bath tub with shower over the bath. I would highly recommend that if you are thinking of a cruise to Iceland that you have at least an outside cabin and if your budget can stretch to it, go for a balcony.

When you are going to Iceland you do have to be aware that yes, it is expensive when you are there, so be prepared that things do cost a lot more than back home. Whether you are taking a cruise or going for a short city break there are a number of things that you must do to make the most of your stay.

* The Blue Lagoon - this is such an experience and I would highly recommend that you take a trip there during your stay. Depending on your flight times or if you are taking a cruise how you get there will differ. I am always happy to discuss your options on this so just give me a call. You can take an excursion built in with your transfer to the Airport and that will keep your costs down a bit, there is a secure facility at the Blue Lagoon to keep any luggage you might have.

* Golden Circle Tour - wow, this takes in some of the main sights that Iceland has to offer and is another must do. You can arrange excursions in advance or book when you are there, or for the more adventurous it's very easy to hire a car and explore on your own, this will give you more flexibility when visiting the sights and you can then stay as long as you want. You will see the famous landmarks of, Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall and the spectacular Geysirs, outstanding.

* Of course the waters around Iceland are full of natural wildlife and perfect to view the many Fjords and sights that Iceland offers. But most amazing of all is the opportunity to take a Whale Watching trip, an, up close chance to view these beautiful mammals in their natural habitat, make sure you take your camera!

There are so many wonderful things to do and to see on a trip to Iceland and I am more than happy to advise on any aspect when you are thinking of taking a trip to this amazing place.

What I can really say is that you will be blown away by the lunar like landscape and the hidden gems that Iceland has to offer. I will most certainly be taking a trip there again in the future. Don't forget that the winter months are the best to have a chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

Happy holidays and I hope that we can assist you with your next holiday or cruise no matter where it is.
